TUKU TUAKIRI
Kākahuria te kiripapa,
kākahuria te tuakiri

Adorning the land,
embellishing identity

We are a reflection of our environment, and so our identity is tied to the rhythms, patterns, and cycles of the natural world.

This tuku (campaign) celebrates the language of the taiao through the innate expression of identity that is ‘fashion’. This campaign is intended to run in the week lead-up and the week of New Zealand Fashion Week 2023, and it presents collections by Kiri Nathan as photographed by Damien Nikora and David Shields.

Kiri Nathan is a Maori fashion label who craft their collections through innovative and modern designs that reflect the cultural and natural beauty that is Aotearoa, New Zealand.

In Kiri’s collections, silhouette, materials, colour, textures, and weave all nod to being from here, Aotearoa, and the unique landscape that our history and our ‘now’ sit within.

This August 29th, Kiri Nathan will be the first Maori fashion label to open New Zealand Fashion Week. These billboards celebrate both this moment, but most importantly, the role that kakahu have in reflecting place, culture, and identity.
